When comes to sins or wrong doings being committed, Jesus focus on granting atonement and redemption to sinners and perpetrators rather than punishing them whether according to religious laws or legal system. Many sins and wrongdoings are committed due to many circumstances. Jesus gives the supposed adulteress a chance to atone her own sin.
The Pharisees did not believe in Jesus and continually questioned Him in attempts to trap Jesus into being captured by the Romans.
The Pharisees brought a woman to Jesus who was caught in the act of adultery and according to the law of Moses such a person was to be stoned to death. He questioned Jesus on what they should do to this woman who committed this sin. Everyone gathered holding a stone waiting to start stoning the woman to death.
To their surprise Jesus bent down and picked a stone. Holding it up towards the heavens Jesus said to them “I’ll give my stone to the first man who has never sinned”. Knowing everyone was a sinner, everybody dropped their stones and begun to walk away one after the other.
Jesus was the only one around that could have thrown the stone…..but he forgave her….and gave her a daunting task,”Go and sin no more”.
